On Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 9:00 - 11:15 am, Kids Marketplace will be held at Fox Hollow Elementary for the 3rd grade students. In order to make this a success, we need parents, grandparents, or friends who are available to assist that morning. If you are available and willing to assist, please contact the office at 801-282-1818 before January 8th.
Kids' Marketplace is a simulation of the "real world". All students randomly pick a job and, based upon that job, are given a monthly income in play money. Volunteers such as you will sit at different tables around the room, each one representing a "business". The businesses include Animal Shelter, Checking & Savings, Chance, Clothing, Contributions, Fun, Furniture, Groceries, Housing, Medical Insurance, Personal Care and Transportation. Volunteers are encouraged, but not expected, to bring simple props to place on their respective tables; for example: Animal Shelter - stuffed animals,
Clothing - clothing/shoe items, Fun - video/computer games, Grocery - cans/boxes of food, Personal Care - lotion, toothbrush/paste, etc., Transportation - toy cars to display on the respective tables.
Student visit each business and, using hypothetical choices, choose how they will spend their money. Each business has simple instructions for volunteers. The goal of the students is to visit all of the businesses and have a little extra money left at the "end of the month".
